us anytime should the need arise. Our History Bloch and Company founder was Louis M. Boch, Jr. developer/inventor and author. The company was originally based in Kirtland, Ohio and eventually moved to University Heights, Ohio. Louis ran the company with his wife Pauline Carson Bloch until his death in 2000. Both were dedicated to the community, politics, and environmental issues. For the next five years, Pauline ran the business until she passed away in 2005. Currently, Bloch and Company is located in Virginia Beach, Virginia and run by their son, James L. Bloch and his wife, Diana D. Bloch. Development of the LOCAT pipe locator Starting with the inspiration of the divining rod, our founder developed a stainless steel version of a pipe locator in November of 1986. It is a perfectly balanced device for use in locating all types of buried pipe. The LOCAT can find water pipes, sewer pipes, shut-off boxes for water lines, septic tanks and covers, manhole covers, drain pipes, electric lines, buried metal or plastic sprinklers, plastic valve boxes, electrical metal conduit, lateral lines, and tree roots. Bloch, Jr. was also the author of two books: (1) "The Gas Pipe Networks", a history of college radio 1936-1946, revealing the impact of the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System on the development of public and educational broadcasting in the United States. (2) "Overland to California in 1859, a guide for wagon train travelers" was published in 1900 and features actual quotations from guides of the time.
